Kim's Journey To Motherhood

Two and a half years of fertility treatments including four IUIs, two rounds of IVF, two frozen embryo transfers and we finally have liftoff. Twin girls, Emma and Ellie, born January 15, 2013. Parenting after infertility.

My TTC Story

By way of background, here is a bit on my journey to conceive.

1998—I was diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) at age 17 after absent periods for 6 months at a time. 
2002—Diagnosed with IR (insulin resistance) at age 21 after someone finally did an insulin level study on me.  Prescribed Metformin, but it was too harsh on my system and I stopped. 
2007—Married The Mister.
January 2010—Stopped birth controlFebruary 2010—Actively trying to conceive
March 2010—First round of Clomid (50mg) No ovulation.
April 2010—Hysteroscopy and D&C and HSG performed.  Results:  uterine cavity with one polyp (removed) and possible blocked right tube.  Also, diagnosed with male factor infertility.  
April 2010—Placed on Synthroid (50 mcg, then 100 mcg) for under active thyroidMay 2010—Clomid (150 mg) Possible ovulation. Ovidrel shot.  IUI (“inter uterine insemination”)  BFN (“Big Fat Negative”)
June 2010—Clomid (250 mg)  Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)  Cycle cancelled
July 2010 thru October 2010—Three rounds of Clomid (200 mg, 250 mg, 250 mg), three Ovidrel shots, two more IUIs (one was cancelled because only the right ovary with possible blocked tube was ovulating).  All BFNs.  
January 2011—Start IVF process with tests and down regulation
February/March 2011—IVF 1.0.  Synthroid upped to 150 mcg.  Down regulation with birth control pills and Lupron.  Stimulation with Follistim AQ.  Two Ovidrel shots.   Steroids and antibiotic after retrieval and before transfer.  Progesterone in Oil shots after retrieval.  19 eggs retrieved.  14 mature and fertilized using ICSI.  6 made it to day 5 (blatocyst stage).  Two transferred.  Four frozen.
March 11, 2011—BFP!!! 
April 6, 2011—TWO EMBRYOS—Identical twins (mono/di)
April 18, 2011—No heartbeats on final fertility clinic checkup.  Miscarriage confirmed next day.  D&C performed next day. 
May 19, 2011—Receive results from karotyping of embryos:  twin girls, genetically normal. 
May 19, 2011—Start Prometrium to start period.  Commence planning (down regulation) for FET (“Frozen Embryo Transfer”).
